Finally, the group stage of the 9th season of Big Bash League has finished successfully. A total of five teams have been qualified for the playoff. Now, Sydney Thunder is one of them. They started the playoff with the eliminator round. They faced Hobart Hurricanes there and beat them quite easily. Reportedly, Sydney Thunder reached the Knockout stage!
Sydney Thunder finished the group stage holding the 5th position on the point table. They managed six victories by playing 14th matches there. And Hobart Hurricanes was on the 4th. They also managed six victories but considering the run rate, they were ahead. The thing did not help them in the knockout round. They faced a certain defeat. The team Hurricanes could not even make any hard competition there. So, Sydney Thunder reached the Knockout stage!
At the Blundstone Arena, earlier today, Hurricanes faced Sydney Thunder. It was a day/ night match. And the team of Sydney won by 57 runs so far. The team Thunder won the toss and decided to bat first.
Through the destructive opening of Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales, Thunder made a good start. They added 103 runs jointly. Based on their tremendous batting, Sydney Thunder lost five wickets in 20 overs and scored 197 runs so far. In T20 cricket, the score was pretty big. And the opponent team Hurricanes could not make a good start. In 24 runs, they lost opener Wade. The other opener Short added 37 runs. Among the rest players, Simon Milenko added 28 runs so far. The team Hurricanes could not play the whole 20 overs. But in 18.3 overs, they lost all wickets. In the meantime, they scored 140 runs so far.
Now, Sydney Thunder has to play the Knockout round. And their opponent has been fixed. It will be Adelaide Strikers and the match will take place on 1st February 2020.
