The biggest confusion which has emerged is the unique rules of this stage. The fact is the predetermined terms for the teams have left the fans puzzled.
Will there be Super 8 in T20 World Cup?
Yes, the 2024 Men’s T20 WC features the Super 8 stage at the end of the Group Stage. It will be in between the group stage and the semifinal. From 20 teams, only 8 will reach this stage and these 8 sides will automatically qualify for the 2026 T20 WC.
How is Super 8 decided in T20 World Cup 2024?
The ranking for the qualifying sides have been determined prior to the competition and it won’t be affected by the positions at the end of the group stage. For example, India, England, New Zealand, and South Africa would be considered A1, B1, C1, and D1 respectively. Meanwhile, Pakistan, Australia, West Indies, and Sri Lanka were expected to be treated as A2, B2, C2, and D2. However, although Australia finishes at the top of the Group B, they will still go on as B2. And if England finishes at the 2nd spot, they will take B1. More interestingly, if Scotland qualifies instead of the Englishmen, the Scottish lads will qualify as the B1 spot holders.
USA qualified over Pakistan and will take the A2 spot. Similarly, Bangladesh are the holders of the D2 spot. Interestingly, Afghanistan and WI knocked out the Kiwis and the Afghans will emerge as the C1 spot holders doesn’t matter they beat the Caribbean or not.
The Super 8 Group 1 features A1, B2, C1, D2; and hence represents India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh respectively. Meanwhile, Group 2 appears A2, B1, C2, D1; which means the USA, England, West Indies, and South Africa.
At the end of the Group Stage, a total of 4 teams will reach the semis with top 2 from each group qualifying for the last 4.
